So this the old market in Abyei ( should be looking at these from the bottom up by the way) after the battle.

I had to get a photo of one of these buses. They pile stuff as high as they can, no regulations of course and this one isn't even the highest I have seen.

This is the main street of Abyei just to give you an idea of the sort of place it is. Of course this is after all the fighting last May. The old market... and it is old becaus it was bombed in the conflict and now there is a new one... is on the left in this photo. You are basically looking north.

The two photos above were taken in a little village almost a suburb to Abyei called Yamora. WFP was in the village and everyone was out at the school. The kids here love getting their photo taken and swarm you to see themselves on your camera. They are awesome, it is always thumbs up too. Everytime you pass them on the road you get the big one... thumb that is.

Two times the fun. Abyei helipad.

The Abyei police station. The cells are directly on the other side of the UN vehicles and boy o boy boy you don't want to do anything illegal in this part of the world. Let's say you
know you are in jail in Sudan.
Great Photos Kirk!
ReplyDeleteI love the bus..... from my prespective it looks like lego.Yes? No?
Yes, children in these parts of world, despite the wars, hunger and lack of Things, appear content more so than not. Proves my belief: "Greater are the joys than the things of this life."
Thumbs Up to you guys for being there!!
